What accumulates in a contracting business
- Partial reels of THHN and XHHW after a rough-in or feeder pull
- Feeder and service cable left from a service upgrade
- MC and AC coils opened for a branch circuit run
- Tray and VFD cable from an industrial project
- Control cable spools from a panel change
- Flexible cord from temporary power
- Discontinued colors and short reels a distributor cannot sell as new
What accumulates in a distributorship
Distributors hold the largest, cleanest loads: full reels of slow-moving sizes, overstock in colors that no longer match a spec, damaged-package returns and obsolete product lines. The material is usually palletized and labeled, which makes it the easiest category to quote accurately.
Typical contractor and distributor load
- Common products
- THHN, XHHW-2, MC, SER, tray cable, control cable
- Sizes
- #14 through 1000 MCM
- Packaging
- Partial reels, full reels, coils, cartons, pallets
- Condition
- New surplus, overstock, opened, discontinued
- Quantity
- Reel count and tag footage per item
- Access
- Shop dock, warehouse rack, trailer, job container
Every lot is reviewed on its details and photos; not every item in a mixed rack is accepted.
The paperwork that helps
A pick list or inventory export is the fastest possible quote. Failing that, a photo of each reel tag plus a count is enough to start.
If the material is going through a write-off or an asset disposal, say so early. The documentation requirements are usually different, and it is easier to agree on them before the pickup is scheduled.
Logistics from a shop or a warehouse
Most contractor loads are picked up with a flatbed or a box truck at a dock, and most distributor loads are palletized and forklifted. Tell us the dock height, the forklift capacity and the gate hours.
For trailers and job containers, confirm that the unit can be pulled out or that the material can be handled on site. A container buried behind equipment is a different job than a pallet at a dock.
FAQ
Questions we get from sellers
Can you pick up from multiple job sites?
Yes, when the sites are in the same region and the material justifies the trip. List each location and what is stored there.
Do you buy a whole rack including the material you do not want?
We quote the wire and cable. If a rack includes equipment, the wire is what we price, and the rest stays with you.
Will you sign a release or bill of sale?
Yes. We document what is removed from each site as part of the pickup.
